I’m starting my blog with time-sensitive items. These are items that you either want early or need to start early. So hop to it!

Homemade and Time-Sensitive Gifts

Art Signals: Paint your own pottery. Dishes, decorations, light switch covers, figurines, pet dishes-- they have a lot here. Remember the ceramic Christmas trees that were popular in the late 70s and early 80s? They’ve got them. You could glaze one to match your (or anyone else’s) color scheme. If you've got kids, let them make a platter for a loved one and deliver it with some macaroons from Art's Specialties, or show up with some fresh cinnamon buns from Serendipity Cafe. The things you work on here will make your special recipient know that they are worth your time. Get on this one soon because turnaround time for firing is about 2-3 weeks, but call to make sure.

Island Yarn: Maybe you’d like to knit or crochet something special for someone, or maybe you are a knitter and you just want some amazing yarn. Their collection of yarns is beautiful. Some are hand dyed. They have all kinds of kits and you can even sign up for classes. Does someone you know knit beautifully? Gift them some yarn and maybe they'll realize just how much you admire their work.

Butler Lumber: If you’re good with woodworking then somebody has probably asked you about constructing something special for them. How about a shelf for stuffed animals or special collections of toys? Or maybe you have a budding woodworker on your hands and want to help them with a project.

Gallery Seven frame shop: Frames are about more than just art; they can be used to honor someone’s life, a skilled hobby, or a special collection. Nick and Kelli are very creative, so go to them with your special treasure and see what they come up with. Things you might want to frame: collector’s cards, a special piece of embroidery, a sentimental object, a child’s creative work. I’ve been thinking of having my mother-in-law’s ballet shoes framed in a shadow box with a picture of her fourteen-year-old self in the background. I also have a photo of my grandfather when he served in the Portuguese army and a little soldier from the nativity they used to put together in the old country.

Holiday Decor and Holiday Needs

Will you be making a local visit and don't want to go empty handed? Flowers are a lovely gift to brighten your hosts’ home, and we have two great florists in town--The Flower Pot and Hawes Florist. They can also help you out with more holiday decor, like wreaths and poinsettias. A floral arrangement for a person who doesn't have space for a tree would probably brighten their Christmas. Did you know that when you order flowers and arrangements through our local florists for worldwide delivery they get a percentage of the sale!

Are you finding your house a little light on the festive?

The Paper Store has holiday-themed shirts and pajamas, and tons of ornaments and other pretty and festive decorations. Some people buy their kids a new ornament every year, and then when they're all grown they can take those ornaments and start their own traditions that will carry memories of Christmases with you.
