Help Scotty Out?

Have you ever talked to Scotty?  For a long time I assumed he was homeless, but didn't want to ask. It turns out that he is, but he doesn't really ever ask of anything from his fellow Maynard citizens. He's a proud guy, and is just as likely to offer something to you if you offer something to him. I did once give him a dollar because he told me that he likes to get a cup of coffee from McDonald's when they open up in the morning. And I thought about that, how for one dollar he could get a cup of coffee and start his day in a heated place for a while without worrying that he's staying too long.

As our winter days suddenly turned cold, I wasn't surprised to see messages of concern for Scott start showing up on Maynard-focused social media. There are a lot of goodhearted, generous people here in town, which is really wonderful, but fortunately for us there are also some smart, resourceful people. And those people, put their brains together and started a GoFundMe page for Scotty.

What's beautiful is that the plan isn't just to throw some money at the problem. Thought has been put into long-term goals. Check out the GoFundMe page to read about it:

It may feel impossible to fix some of the larger problems going on in the world, but maybe we can make a bit of difference if we start locally.
